The hike to Khamsum Yuley Namgay Chorten is a serene journey through the picturesque countryside of Punakha Valley. A 30-minute drive from Punakha town brings you to the trailhead, where the adventure begins with a 45-minute hike through lush paddy fields. The landscape is particularly stunning during the planting or harvest season, as the golden or emerald-green terraces, nourished by an intricate irrigation system, stretch across the valley.

As the trail ascends, the scenery shifts from cultivated fields to a peaceful pine forest, offering a refreshing escape into nature. The final stretch is a gentle yet invigorating climb to the chorten, a magnificent structure perched atop a ridge.

Built under the vision of Her Majesty the Queen Mother, Ashi Tshering Yangdon Wangchuck, Khamsum Yuley Namgay Chorten is a masterpiece of traditional Bhutanese architecture and spiritual significance. It was constructed to promote peace, harmony, and protection for the kingdom. The chorten is adorned with intricate murals and statues, reflecting deep Buddhist symbolism.

From the top, visitors are rewarded with a breathtaking panoramic view of the Punakha Valley, with the Mo Chhu river meandering through the fertile lands below. Whether seeking spiritual solace or an immersive nature experience, this hike offers a perfect blend of both, making it one of the most rewarding short treks in Punakha.
